Brie de Meaux
Meaux, Ile de France, France
Sweet dreams are made of cheese, who am I to diss a brie?
A soft brie cheese made with unpasteurised cow’s milk. Brie de Meaux is produced in the region of Brie, located 50 kms to the east of Paris. Awarded “The King of Cheese” in 1814, Brie is a big round cheese with a velvety, bloomy rind, and some brownish spots on the top and bottom, meaning it’s ripe and ready to eat. Its soft, straw-coloured creamy paste delivers a great combination of hazelnut and fruit yeasty flavours, and a delicious hint of mushrooms.
Fromagerie Rouzaire has been an independent family-owned company for 3 generations. The dairy and cellars are located in the heart of the Brie area. The AOC (name protected) status was awarded in 1980 to Brie de Meaux.
Pair this cheese with sweet fruits, chutney and honey to enhance its velvety texture. As a treat this cheese partners perfectly with Champagne, red Bordeaux, Beaujolais or Pinot Noir from Bourgogne. A must have for a Spring weekend picnic at your local beach or park!
Brie de Meaux has a bloomy rind with a velvety smooth texture which is enhanced when eaten with sweet fruits. The aroma is rich and mushroomy with a fruit, buttery flavour to taste.
