Nelson sisters Chloe and Florence Van Dyke balance flavour, wellbeing, and the environment in every bottle of juice they produce. The pair make both CHIA – a blend of chia seeds and juice, and Bottled by the Sun pressed fruit juices, in a variety of flavours that showcase the best of Nelson’s pipfruit and berries, alongside feijoas from the North Island, and imported mango and orange pulp.
Chloe has a background in neuroscience and wanted to create a drink to fuel athletes in a healthy way. After six years of researching, she settled on chia seeds, the richest source of essential nutrients, as the star ingredient in CHIA drinks. As well as providing healthy energy, CHIA drinks give a boost of gut-loving probiotics and fibre, omega-3 and antioxidants.
Bottled by the Sun juices are named for the business becoming solar-powered in 2018 – taking free energy from the sun and lessening impact on the environment in return. The business is in fact carbon positive – offsetting over and above its own emissions.
