As the beer world becomes ever more crowded, Liberty Brewing stands head and shoulders above the rest with some of New Zealand’s best-loved brews.
With more than 10 years’ successful brewing and a string of awards tucked under their belt, husband and wife founders Joseph and Christina Wood credit consistency and quality as being the key factors that set their beers apart. “We try to be as consistent as possible – 98% of what we produce is core range beer, with recipes and processes we have refined over and over,” says Joseph. “These are the beers we have won all our awards from.” What began as a home brewing hobby for Joseph quickly took off and customers couldn’t get enough of one of their original beers, Citra.
The business outgrew its home garage premises and they now have a large brewery in Helensville and a 11-strong team making their internationally-acclaimed range. “The most rewarding part about that is that we have been able to provide the amazing people who work for us a stable income over the years. They’re great to work with, and it’s by far the main motivation for our work,” says Joseph.
Humble about their many awards and accolades, Joseph admits that the highlight of their day is around 4pm, when they have finished production
for the day and get a chance to enjoy a beer themselves. Their Divine Wind is the beer they are most proud of.
“It takes incredible skill to produce a beer with such subtle character.” It’ll be their choice of brew on a hot summer’s day and they recommend pairing it with fish and chips. Sounds like a perfect meal to us!
