Southern Seafood from Invercargill stock our shelves with their superior fresh and smoked King Salmon, sourced directly from the pristine, icy waters of Foveaux Strait, Stewart Island.
Founded in 1996 by owner/operators Peter and Anita van Duivenvoorde who are very proud of their southern roots and their business Southern Seafood Products draws many of its values from its southern foundation.
They harvest their King Salmon daily from Stewart Island where the waters are pure and cold all year round. The salmon live in a pristine environment with fresh water provided naturally from constant Antarctic Ocean tidal movement and currents. To ensure consistent quality, the fish are harvested using a process that avoids handling stress and damage and they are bled and packed in an ice slurry for transport. All commercial harvesting operations exercise sustainable farming and are in accordance with best practice in the marine and coastal environment and are farmed in a natural, clean environment.
Processing is quick and efficient in their modern facility in Invercargill, just 20km from the port of Bluff. The salmon arrives chilled, headed and gutted, ready to fillet and pin bone. It is then vacuum packed for the fresh market or brined and smoked using traditional methods and New Zealand native hardwood.

Best of all –Southern Seafood products are deliciously good. We were really blown away by the flavour intensity they have achieved on their hot smoked and marinated salmon with flavours that also were really exciting and different to what we have seen out there.
We have a wakame which is fantastic and sprinkled with sesame seeds and chilli which Southern Seafood says is a …”harmonious balance of sweet, aromatic and hot spices, which adds a subtle flavour without overpowering the delicacy of the salmon..” We heartily agree!
