Mike Barton and his wife have a 146-hectare property where they farm beef on the northwestern side of Lake Taupo. As a strong advocate for lake water quality, Mike is now undertaking a four-year trial that concentrates on mitigating nitrogen leaching from beef farming systems. As a major issue to waterways and farming practices, Mike has reduced his cattle headcount in order to support a better way of farming that focuses on sustainability.
His approach is revolutionary, controversial and very demanding. Farmers require consent to farm and have very strict guidelines on operation all of which reduces the amount of beef they can actually produce.
We are very proud to support Mike in his endeavours by offering Taupo Beef at Farro Fresh. As a premium product that is produced through such endeavors our aim is to highlight the practices of more sustainable farming and make us all as consumers more aware of the costs associated.
Taupo Beef is available now at all Farro Fresh stores – look for the Taupo Beef label.
